Background:

  • Born and educated in Hamilton, Ontario
  • Married to Bea for five years with her 2 sons Daniel and Steven Jessel
  • Bruce has 2 children from a previous marriage Bruce Jr. Living in Guelph and Brooke with her husband and 2 sons, living in Hamilton.
  • Moved to Grimsby in the early 70’s, moved away in the 80’s moved back in 1990 and has been here ever since
  • Bruce has always been involved with youth groups as long as he can remember
  • He has been active in the community since moving to Grimsby in the early 70’s
  • Retired from Stelco Hilton Works, Hamilton, as a Pipe Fitter
  • Member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, Grimsby

 

Education:

  • Attended Glendale SS School 1966 -1970  Hamilton, Ontario  -Building Construction
  • Attended Mohawk College for Pipe fitter, Steamfitter, Gas Technician, Instrumentation, Energy Systems, Construction Technician.

Volunteer experience:


·         Coached Grimsby baseball in the 70’s

·         Helped Grimsby Cable start kids show “Cable Kids” and also in town reporting

·         On the executive committee for Grimsby Basketball Association (GBA)

·         Coached and convened boys and girls GBA for house league and travel teams in Grimsby   for 9 years

  • Took over the girl’s basketball program with only 20 girls and a threat of canceling the girls program in the GBA. After 3 years and a lot of promotion of the girls program there were over 300 girls participating in the GBA.
  • Put GBA in Santa Claus Parade for the first time
  • Helped start the Stoney Creek Basketball Association
  • Member the Bruce Trail Association since 1994 as a hike leader and trail captain    (maintaining Grimsby’s Bruce Trails)
  • Been involved with numerous BTA fund raising events
  • Educational  hikes for local schools
  • Helped organize a series of hikes for the Anglican Niagara Diocese
  • Educational hike for World Youth Day during the visit of the Pope to Toronto 
  • Bruce’s Millennium Committee project was a 40 Mile Creek trail joining the main trail to the shore of Lake Ontario and the Waterfront Trail.
  • Grimsby Tourism Committee, becoming the Niagara West Tourism Committee
  • Sub-committee of Make A Wish Foundation raised money to send 6 kids away to their wish vacation
  • Volunteer for Grimsby Chamber of Commerce for over 10 years
  • Festival at the Forty volunteer coordinator for over 5 years
  • Festival and Events Committee (FENS) since conception
  • Friends of the Forty Mile Creek committee since conception
  • Volunteer at the FORT (teen resource centre) since 2003
  • Festive Table volunteer (raise money for Grimsby Art Gallery  and Niagara West Tourism Association)
